The little sparrow

Once upon a time, there lived a little sparrow. She used to fly around everyday in search of food and water. She was a little different from her friends in her flock, she had a higher level of patience and perseverance. The friends used to fly together and once they found their feast, they ate and flew back to their nest. However, the little one used to fly a few 100m more everyday just to discover new terrains.

It was a summer morning and the scorching heat left the flock thirsty as never before and their regular source of water had dried up already. The little one made efforts to find a new source of water. It took a strong and resilient pair of wings to afford the risk of flying into the nightmare of every little bird, the city.Ironically, the little one found a kind hearted friend, invisible to her eyes, who had left a generous bowl of water in his balcony. She quenched her thirst, the first day, then, she took 2 of her friends to this place the second day. This continued for a week and her friends were grateful to her. After a week, the little one felt dissatisfied for she thought that her courage went unrecognized and she, hence, started demanding food in return for the service that she offered. She did so since the far-away paradise was really a very long distance to cover everyday and she needed some kind of motivation to do so everyday. Her friends did'nt mind sharing food, since, for them, a gulp of water was all that mattered. The little one started enjoying the attention that she got and started taking 4 birds everyday to this new found paradise. One day, when she returned to her garden and waited for the fee she had demanded, she saw her friend snatching a worm from her baby brother and handing it over to the little one with a grateful smile. The baby brother did'nt seem very sad either. This little one suddenly realized how she was selling the joy of spreading smiles for an ugly price smashing the very purpose of the deed.Had she not demanded respect and incentive in return for her deed, she would have earned it through her selfless service, holding intact her self-esteem ad infinitum.

This little one might sound very familiar, for we know her very well, we have her in us and call her our ‘ego’.She dwells in each and everyone of us.She plays a very important role in our lives. She is essential for existence and will aid us only if we let her be.Dont let her intimidate her fellow beings like passion, benevolence and confidence.Just keep quenching the thirst of the fellow beings and she shall be rewarded with what she deserves, with all due respect and heartfelt love.Let the thin line between a good deed and greed stay illuminated so that you dare not let ‘ego’ lose her reason and bereave her fellow birds of their purpose.
